Abstract
The Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida organises a series of anniversary events in honour and memory of the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution under the blessing and auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. The first speaker narrates the biography and the great contribution of the bishop of Talantia, Neophytos Metaxas, a leading hierarch, in the liberation struggle of Rumelia. His life and works were a point of reference and an object of reflection. The second speaker presents the strong Ottoman presence in Atalanta and the life of a great empirical doctor, Hasan Aga Kourtalis.
