Abstract
The Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida organises a series of anniversary events in honour and memory of the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution under the blessing and auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. This event seeks to commemorate the fighters of the sea who defeated the Ottoman fleet with meagre means, but with living faith, and helped the freedom of Greece. The theme of the first talk, “Fireships: the breath of fire”, underlines the importance of this powerful Greek weapon, while the second, entitled “You need a soul and Christ: The spiritual fireship captains of subjected Hellenism”, looks at those who organised the fireships. Finally, the third talk concerns “The contribution of medicine during the revolution”.
