Abstract
At an event hosted by the Institute for Social Research Dimitris Batsis entitled “The Greek Revolution of 1821: Class or National Liberation Revolution?”, the speaker presents the dominant historiographical schema, that of the national-liberating character of the 1821 Revolution, as it was created by Konstantinos Paparrigopoulos. He also presents social aspects of the Greek Revolution, such as the work of Yanis Kordatos. Then the speaker analyses the economic and social situation of the Ottoman Empire in order to showcase the bourgeois character of the revolution.
