Abstract
Spyridon Trikoupis, a man of letters, with ease in foreign languages, with a mild conciliatory character and with many personal relationships, was used during the whole struggle in positions and missions where he could contribute with these qualifications. He was a close associate of Alexandros Mavrokordatos, an anglophile but also one of the main interlocutors of the French and the pro-French mediators, who sought to invite the Duke of Nemours to the Greek throne. He did not take part in battles, but he was one of those who formed the intellectual army of the struggle and contributed, on the one hand, to present Greece abroad as a nation with a political status and on the other hand to create the necessary political and legislative infrastructure for the establishment of the Greek state.
