Abstract
The Holy Metropolis of Fthiotida organises a series of anniversary events of honour and memory for the 200 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821 under the blessing and auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. The event was dedicated to Agios Kosmas of Etolos. He was an ecclesiastical figure with an important work during the Turkish occupation and the pre-eminent envoy of the Church for the people. The speaker presents aspects of his life and his multifaceted activity, his studies and his great contribution with the tours in the letters and the preservation of the Greek language. Finally, he emphasises his unique mission which was to awaken consciences, to stop Islamisation, to comfort and revive the minds of the enslaved Greeks.
