Abstract
This talk will present the mechanisms of the economy of war in Crete and how the management of locally available resources (for example, oil revenue, but also pirate booty) was primarily a field of confrontation with political and military consequences. As a result, the Cretan Council and its committees failed to organise a regular taxation and to allocate the necessary resources for the formation of a regular and permanent army. This development resulted in the failure of the campaigns and sieges of the fortified cities of Crete, a fact that weighed decisively on the final failed outcome of the revolution.
