Abstract
"The 1821 Revolution and the struggle for the liberation of the Greek people is one of the most important events in Greek history. It led to the establishment of the Greek state and triggered the movement of philhellenism. But what were the “Economics of the Revolution” so that the revolutionary people could organise and maintain themselves?
During the event of the Department of Economics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki on the occasion of the bicentennial since the 1821 Revolution, professors, doctoral candidates and undergraduate students of the department, will speak on the “Economic aspects of the Revolution”. The charitable events and donations of wealthy Greeks played an important role in that period for the strengthening of the efforts of the Philiki Etaireia. At the same time, part of the needs for the war expenses were covered by voluntary contributions and later by internal and external loans.
The economic data of that period is not very accurate due to lack of regular recording, but it is worth focusing and looking for the economic aspects of the establishment of the Greek state, and its relationship with foreign lending, which to this day is the primary issue affecting the economic development of the country."
The event is part of the activities of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for the bicentenary anniversary year 2021.
