Abstract

What were the clothing habits of Greeks in the revolutionary and post-revolutionary years? What was the social and symbolic content of their dress? How are the historical and cultural conditions of their production reflected in the shapes and forms of their clothing? The communication aims to provide answers to the above questions through the recording and analysis of the costume image of the Greeks in the years of the revolution and in the years that followed, as this image is presented in the work of European travellers, in the depictions in multi-figure representations in the works of well-known painters, but also in the costume material that has survived to the present day in museum collections.
