Abstract
In the rhythmic poetic tragedy “Kapodistrias”, Nikos Kazantzakis depicts the problems of Greek society and the newly formed Greek state, based on the sociopolitical forces that acted in the 1821 Revolution 1821. Kazantzakis aptly preserves the historical figures who played a catalytic role both during the revolution, as well as in the painful process of creating a state, without using the intense metaphysical elements that flood other works of his. The play stars important figures of 1821. Introducing the characters, he connects the work with historical reality. He also presents the sociopolitical conflict of interests and human passions. Kazantzakis, using the material of history, gives his own view of the historical moment of Kapodistrias’ rule.
