Abstract

The paper examines the modern Greek folksongs of the 1821 Revolution (mostly klephtic and historical songs) and to the translations of these songs into Russian, with the emphasis on the famous translations by Nikolay Gnedich, published in 1825 in St. Petersburg in the book “Folk songs of today’s Greeks”, as well as to the reprint of this translation published by OGI in Moscow in 2021 to mark the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution.
