Abstract

The fifth of the workshops in the series of educational programs “Sheet Number 1821”, addressed to the members of the Greek Libraries Network, is entitled “Women in the struggle”. Manto Mavrogenous and Laskarina Bouboulina are emblematic figures of the revolution, but they were by no means the only women who took an active role in the struggle. A series of unseen heroines prepared by every means at their disposal the start of the revolution, undertook war missions, supplied the warriors or cared for the captured and heroically faced captivity, hunger, deprivation and death. The purpose of this particular workshop is for the children to understand the important contribution of women in the Greek Revolution but also to come into contact with archival documents that function as historical sources.
