Abstract
Talk by His Eminence Panteleimonos, Metropolitan of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania, within the framework of the series of talks on “Blood of Martyrs and Heroes” marking the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution. The eighth talk is entitled “Fragrant flowers of new martyrs” and is dedicated to the new martyrs who preferred death to conversion. The metropolitan refers to the holy new martyrs of Veria, such as the Hieromartyr Arsenios, Saints Athanasios and Ioannis, the Deacon Kallinikos and finally Saint Thimotheos. According to the metropolitan, the new martyrs were forerunners of the heroic fighters of 1821 and ambassadors of the enslaved race, as they died a martyr before 1821 and with their sacrifice paved the way for the preparation of the struggle.
