Abstract
Talk by His Eminence Panteleimonos, Metropolitan of Veria, Naoussa and Kampania, within the framework of the series of talks on “Blood of Martyrs and Heroes” marking the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution. The 16th talk focuses on education and the important role it played in maintaining the self-consciousness of Hellenism and national identity. The speaker describes the state of education from the 15th to 19th centuries, the establishment of schools in various regions of Greece and abroad, while at the same time emphasising the special offer of the so-called teachers of the nation, the scholars and the clergy involved in education and the Greek Revolution.
