Abstract
The theme of the event is the contribution of the Church to the 1821 Struggle and the action of Stauropegion monasteries of Pontus under Ottoman rule. The contribution of the Pontian element to the revolution and the independence of the homeland is underlined. The monasteries were the nurseries of Hellenism while many clergy from them were martyred. The monasteries offered great help under Ottoman rule but also in times of disease and pandemics. The second part of the event closes with poems read by students.
