Vasiliki Filiou received her BA (2005) from the Department of History and Ethnology of the Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH). In 2011, she received a postgraduate scholarship to study international studies in the Law School of the same university. Since 2015 she has been a PhD candidate in the Department of History and Ethnology of DUTH, specialising in the rehabilitation of refugees in the Rodopi area (1923–1930). She speaks English and French and is learning Bulgarian and Turkish. She has spoken at international academic conferences and has published articles and studies mainly on local history. She has worked in the public education system and in the DUTH administration.
