Abstract
This is the first volume of the “Texts of Remembrance” series, which includes 19th-century memoirs/diaries and historiographies about the Greek Revolution.
The fighter Artemios Michos (1803–1880), born in Ioannina, was in Messolongi during the second siege. His diary entries and the issues of the Ellinika Chronika newspaper published by the Swiss philhellene Johann Jacob Meyer formed the basis of the memoir he wrote towards the end of his life. His speech – simple, unpretentious and modest – illuminates realities, mentalities and faces in the besieged city, constituting an important historical testimony but also an expression of morality.
