Abstract
To mark the bicentenary of the 1821 Greek Revolution, which is an important period for Hellenism with struggles and sacrifices of the Greeks and should be honoured, as it should be, the Kalogeropouleio Foundation of Arts and Culture in Corinth has prepared a music event with works by great composers who drew their inspiration from the ideas and values of Greek history. The programme includes “Old man Dimos”, “Three Greek dances” by Nikos Skalkottas, “The Victories” by Manolis Kalomiris, “Whispers of the Aegean” by Verdi, “Marche lugubre Grecque” by Rossini, the “Old Man of the Morea” by Theofrastos Sakellaridis and well as poems by Andreas Kalvos and excerpts from the memoirs of Kolokotronis and other fighters of 1821. The plays will be performed by the string orchestra of the Kalogeropouleio Foundation under the direction of conductor and distinguished violinist Alexandros Halapsis and the collaboration of the great lyric tenor Yannis Christopoulos.
