Abstract

Froms the website elta.gr: "Oil paintings by the great painters Theodoros Vryzakis and Georgios Margaritis were selected for the illustrations of four commemorative stamps and the feuillet sheet marking the bicentenary of the 1821 Revolution. The well-known work of Theodoros Vryzakis “Grateful Hellas” features on the feuillet and three other works appear on the stamps: “Two Warriors”, “The Camp of Georgios Karaiskakis” and “War Scene”. Georgios Margaritis’ work “Georgios Karaiskakis Mounted, Advances on the Acropolis” features on another stamp. In addition, Vryzakis’ “The Sortie of Messolongi” and “The Reception of Lord Byron at Messolongi” are depicted in the first-day covers for the stamps and feuillet and in numbered albums. All the works belong to the collections of the National Gallery–Alexandros Soutsos Museum while the necessary adaptations were made by Marina Lassithiotaki".
